A rational, structured approach to primary aortoenteric fistula.

چکیده
a relatively rare but serious complication of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). Since Sir Astley Cooper first described PAEF in 1822, only about 300 cases have been reported in the literature. Roux and colleagues reviewed 253 cases before 1993, and Saers and Scheltinga analyzed 81 new cases from 1994 to 2003. As both studies report, PAEF is a clinical and surgical challenge associated with a high morbidity and mortality. We report the case of a woman who presented with a PAEF and underwent a successful in situ reconstruction of the aorta. We describe the technical details that might decrease the chances of postoperative graft infection and fistula recurrence.

A Rare Cause of Primary Aortoenteric Fistula: Streptococcus parasanguinis Aortitis
Primary aortoenteric fistula is a rare cause of upper gastrointestinal bleed but can lead to significant mortality if the diagnosis is delayed. Aortitis, characterized by inflammation of the aortic wall, is a rare cause of aortoenteric fistula. We present a case report of a 72-year-old male patient with infectious aortoenteric fistula secondary to Streptococcus parasanguinis, along with a revie...
متن کاملDouble Primary Aortoenteric Fistulae: A Case Report of Two Simultaneous Primary Aortoenteric Fistulae in One Patient
Aortoenteric fistula is a rare but potentially fatal condition causing massive gastrointestinal bleeding. In particular, double primary aortoenteric fistulae are vanishingly rare. We encountered a 75-year-old male patient suffering from abdominal pain, hematochezia, hematemesis, and hypotension. His computed tomography images showed abdominal aortic aneurysm and suspected aortoenteric fistulae....
متن کاملPrimary Aortoenteric Fistula of a Saccular Aneurysm: Case Study and Literature Review
Primary aortoenteric fistula is a direct communication between the aorta and intestinal lumen and it represents a rare but potentially lethal complication of an abdominal aortic aneurysm. However, it may occur less frequently in a naive non-aneurysmatic aorta. Diagnosis is often difficult and delayed in most cases, unless there is a high level of clinical awareness. Urgent surgery is still the ...
متن کاملPrimary Aortoenteric Fistula: A Rare Case of a Massive Gastrointestinal Bleed
Aortoenteric fistulas (AEFs) are deadly, abnormal connections between the aorta and gastrointestinal (GI) tract. While secondary aortoenteric fistulas (SAEFs) are more common and arise after aortic reconstruction, primary aortoenteric fistulas (PAEFs) are generally caused by abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs). PAEFs may present with self-limited GI bleeds called "herald bleeds," and the fistula ...
متن کاملA Case of Primary Aortoenteric Fistula Mimicking Duodenal Subepithelial Tumor
Primary aortoenteric fistula is a fatal condition which poses a considerable diagnostic challenge because of its infrequency and nonspecific presentation. Here, the authors report the case of an 83-year-old man who presented with hematemesis and melena. During endoscopy, a 3 cm sized subepithelial mass with central ulceration was found in the second portion of the duodenum. At first, bleeding f...
